Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.</p><p><b>EXAMPLES OF WORK:</b></p><p>Opens and closes boiler before/after inspections.</p><p>Repairs low or high pressure boiler tubes.</p><p>Replaces asbestos, packing valves, gaskets, and steam lines.</p><p>Welds joints and hangers.</p><p>Maintains and repairs feed water heater and high pressure auxiliaries by patching asbestos, and removing and replacing heater filtering element or other components.</p><p>Performs certified welding work..</p><p>Lubricates parts and dampers.</p><p>\"Blows down\" boiler and tubes.</p><p>Paints pumps and other boiler room equipment.</p><p>Performs \"in charge\" duties.</p><p>Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.</p><p><b>REQUIREMENTS:</b></p><p><b>LICENSE:</b></p><p>Appointees must possess a current, valid Black Seal Boiler Operator License of the appropriate type (high or low pressure) issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.</p><p>Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.</p><p><b>KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:</b></p><p>Knowledge of varied types of machines/equipment used in a power plant and in a high pressure heating plant including supplies, materials, and tools used to lubricate/clean machinery and equipment.</p><p>Knowledge of problems, methods, and techniques used in repairing, maintaining, and installing grate units, tubes, and caps.</p><p>Knowledge of procedures used in welding and replacing high pressure steams lines and turbine boilers.</p><p>Knowledge of safe/efficient practices to be followed in firing stationary boilers and varied types of stokers and their operation including the several types of safety devices/measures.</p><p>Knowledge of proper levels for water in boilers to ensure maximum safety and efficient operation.</p><p>Ability to analyze steam boiler equipment maintenance problems.</p><p>Ability to organize assigned work.</p><p>Ability to develop effective work methods.</p><p>Ability inspect and check safety devices and units.</p><p>Ability to keep boiler room machinery/equipment cleaned and lubricated.</p><p>Ability to repair, maintain, and install tubes, caps, and grate units and turbine boilers.</p><p>Ability to maintain boiler and pump areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.</p><p>Ability to prepare records.</p><p>Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.</p><p>Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
