Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.</p><p><b>EXAMPLES OF WORK:</b></p><p>Conducts routine chemical analyses utilizing spectrophotometers, fluorimeters, gamma counters, automated analyzers and other equivalently sophisticated instruments.</p><p>Performs routine wet chemistry and physical tests such as titrations, pH. specific gravity, solids, hardness, color, odor, turbidity, and others under general supervision.</p><p>Assists professional level staff in sophisticated analyses utilizing gas or liquid chromatography or other highly sophisticated instrumentation.</p><p>Takes the lead and assists laboratory technicians in receiving, logging, preparing, and analyzing specimens.</p><p>Maintains supply inventories and reorders material as required.</p><p>Performs the routine technical functions necessary to ensure the orderly and efficient maintenance and operation of the laboratories.</p><p>Inserts quality controls in all assays, digests data, and ensures validity of test results.</p><p>Conducts routine instrumental maintenance checks.</p><p>Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports.</p><p>Maintains essential files and records.</p><p>May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.</p><p><b>REQUIREMENTS:</b></p><p><b>EDUCATION:</b></p><p>Successful completion of (60) semester hour credits at an accredited college, (24) credits of which shall have been in the biological, chemical and/or physical sciences.</p><p>Successful completion of a certificate program in clinical laboratory technology may be substituted for the above education.</p><p><b>EXPERIENCE:</b></p><p>One (1) year of experience as a technician in a public health, hospital, clinical, or research laboratory performing chemical tests.</p><p><b>NOTE:</b> Applicants who do not possess the required college or course in clinical laboratory technology may substitute two (2) additional years of experience as indicated.</p><p><b>LICENSE:</b></p><p>Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.</p><p><b>KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:</b></p><p>Knowledge of chemistry methodology.</p><p>Knowledge of acceptable quality control procedures.</p><p>Knowledge of modern laboratory equipment, reagents and techniques.</p><p>Knowledge of safety procedures utilized during laboratory practices.</p><p>Ability to analyze routine chemistry laboratory problems, organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.</p><p>Ability to take the lead in a group of laboratory workers and oversee the performance of their work.</p><p>Ability to use and maintain scientific equipment, including pH meters, colorimeters, spectographs, cryoscopes, spectrophotometers (visible, infrared and ultraviolet), densitometers, chromatographic apparatus and automated analytical devices.</p><p>Ability to conduct routine chemistry laboratory tests and analyses in accordance with established procedures.</p><p>Ability to prepare accurate reports.</p><p>Ability to maintain essential records and files.</p><p>Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.</p><p>Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
