Definition
Under direction, supervises and coordinates activities of staff involved in the comprehensive rehabilitative treatment, education, and supervision of juvenile probationers and/or youth involved in the justice system; does other related duties as required.
Examples of work
- Supervises activities of staff engaged in providing vocational and educational rehabilitative counseling to juveniles.
- Coordinates various aspects of a project providing group and family guidance services, community resource service, volunteer probation officers, and counseling services.
- Schedules and conducts case conferences with staff to analyze the juvenile's background and develop a supervision and rehabilitation plan for the juvenile probationer.
- Establishes and coordinates a means of accounting for staff time and activity to ensure project objectives are being met in the most efficient and effective means possible.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
- Establishes and manages project budget.
- Directs the maintenance of records and files.
- Prepares clear, accurate reports containing conclusions and recommendations.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance, Education, Sociology, or a related field.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience in work involving the supervision or rehabilitation of delinquency prone juveniles.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

- Knowledge of psychological, social, and economic problems of juveniles.
- Knowledge of methods to be employed in motivating juveniles.
- Knowledge of the integration of vocational, educational, and social goals into an overall supervision and rehabilitative plan.
- Knowledge of procedures for budget management.
- Ability to coordinate activities of others, and to evaluate and motivate subordinates.
- Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods for oneself or others.
- Ability to work harmoniously with subordinates and other staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain budgets.
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and informative reports.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
