COUNTY AUDITOR

New Jersey requires an annual audit of every county's finances by a Registered Municipal Accountant, whose report goes to the Division of Local Government Services as well as to the county.

The independence of that audit is the point of the office, and it is why the auditor is engaged rather than examined and appointed as ordinary staff.
