Elevator Mechanic's Helper is a local service title. It is filled by the counties, municipalities, authorities and other employers that have adopted civil service under Title 11A, not by State departments. Examples of work
Assists in repair of elevator motors, rails and equipment that are to be kept clean and properly oiled; assists in making adjustments and repairs to elevator motors, door locks and signal systems, control switches, braking mechanisms and other parts, or mechanical locks on elevator cage doors; assists in other duties necessary to modernize elevators.
Requirements
1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
2. Some knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in mechanical repair work.
3. Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions; to take needed safety precautions in performing the work; to obtain, store, safeguard, and properly use needed equipment, materials, and supplies and to maintain simple records.
4. Good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.
