Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of the proper procedures used in capturing and caring for dogs.
  • Knowledge of the types and kinds of food given to dogs.
  • Knowledge of the varied means of destroying dogs painlessly, and of keeping simple records.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with citizens and others.
  • Ability to answer complaints dealing with dog nuisances and take proper action.
  • To care for dogs sympathetically and to destroy dogs through use of accepted and recognized humane methods.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
