Senior Golf Starter is a local service title. It is filled by the counties, municipalities, authorities and other employers that have adopted civil service under Title 11A, not by State departments. Those employers set pay by ordinance or contract rather than from a State salary schedule, which is why most local titles carry no salary range here.

Examples of work
- Greets golfers in a friendly manner when they arrive at the starting tee.
- Guides other golf starters in establishing tee times and starts single players and/or various groups of players on the course.
- Takes the lead over starters or others involved in this work.
- Spaces golfers in starting so that they do not interfere with one another on golf course.
- Informs golfers and other golf starters of any changes in policies regarding dress code and equipment and enforces regulations.
- Informs golfers and other golf starters of golf course and game policies and procedures before starting.
- Collects receipts to verify payment of appropriate fees.
- Assists golf ranger and other golf starters in keeping records of member players using courses.
- Communicates with other golf course staff of any start time delays, updates, etc.
- Assists in the maintenance of golf facilities.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
One (1) year of experience as a golf starter.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the game of golf and its rules and regulations.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to perform routine manual operations.
- Ability to check permits, receipts, or membership cards enabling players to use the course.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and files.
- Ability to work harmoniously with superiors, and fellow employees.
- Ability to see that course equipment is not misused, damaged, or stolen.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
