MUNICIPAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Every New Jersey municipality must appoint one. The coordinator writes and maintains the local emergency operations plan, and takes charge of the municipal response when an emergency is declared.

Appointed by the mayor for a three-year term, and required to complete the State's emergency management certification programme. That training is the qualification.

Where this title is used

Municipal Emergency Management Coordinator is a local service title. It is filled by the counties, municipalities, authorities and other employers that have adopted civil service under Title 11A, not by State departments. Those employers set pay by ordinance or contract rather than from a State salary schedule, which is why most local titles carry no salary range here.
