Definition
Under direction, plans, develops, directs, and coordinates fund raising programs to solicit funds for local jurisdictional organizations; performs related duties as required.
Examples of work
Plans fund raising programs and projects such as social functions, selling of emblems, or other tokens of the organization represented. Directs and coordinates the solicitation and disbursement of funds, recommends ways to raise money, and formulates policy for collecting and safeguarding contributions. Establishes fund raising goals with superiors based on financial needs and develops schedule for disbursing solicited funds. Initiates public relations programs such as brochures, letters, and so forth to promote community understanding and support for the organization's objectives. Compiles and analyzes information about potential contributors. Contacts appropriate persons or organizations. Arranges information in coherent format for easy reference. Develops mailing or contact lists. Keeps a current, complete reference available to plan a selling approach. Writes, telephones, or visits potential contributors and persuades them to contribute funds by explaining the purpose and benefits of the fund raising program. Issues instructions to volunteers and/or paid workers regarding solicitations, public relations, and clerical duties. Writes proposals for programs or projects, prepares documents in standard format describing program features and modifications to provide information on program status. Coordinates fund raising programs and/or actions essential in meeting organization demands. Evaluates organization needs, and analyzes and/or reviews analyses of alternative courses of action and so forth to provide efficient functioning of fund raising program. Compiles financial data on funds received and/or disbursed by organization for periodic reports. Collects data from financial records, extracts pertinent information, performs computations, and so forth to provide data for fund raising report. Coordinates exchange of information between various concerns and advises in selecting and organizing presentation of information. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of methods, principles, and techniques for conducting advertising, public relations, sales, or fund raising campaigns. Ability to create new ways of presenting information that will attract attention. Ability to speak and write clearly and convincingly. Ability to work well with all kinds of people. Ability to develop resources in a community and to utilize these resources in a coordinated manner for the aims and goals of the program. Ability to organize and carry out a fund raising campaign. Ability to prepare detailed correspondence and reports. Ability to solve problems by establishing sound conclusions and reliable recommendations. Ability to maintain essential records and files. Ability to give assignments and instructions to groups and individuals and to supervise their work. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience. Seven (7) years of professional experience in planning and conducting (a) advertising, sales, or fund-raising campaigns, (b) publicity programs, (c) promotional campaigns for a business, organization, industry, product, or service or, (d) a program to increase membership in an organization. OR Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience. "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
