Definition
Under direction, has charge of the administration, operation and maintenance of a county correctional facility; directs the protection, custody and discipline of inmates; performs other related duties as required.

Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Five (5) years of supervisory experience in management of a correctional facility involving the incarceration, custody, rehabilitation, protection, housing, feeding, work and discipline of inmates.
License
Appointees will be required to posses a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.

Must be a citizen of the United States.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of problems involved in the management and organization of a county correctional facility and of developing and executing a suitable work program and work procedures.
- Knowledge of procedures used in formulating and executing plans for effective utilization of available funds, personnel, equipment, materials and supplies.
- Knowledge of problems, procedures and methods used in supervising the daily inspection of institutional buildings and grounds to ensure safe and orderly conditions.
- Knowledge of methods used in preparing and supervising the preparation of clear, sounds, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
- Knowledge of problems involved in checking, reviewing, approving and/or disapproving the contents of varied documents, papers and records.
- Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
- Ability to develop work programs and work procedures for a correctional facility.

<b>SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:</b>
Appointees must have successfully completed a police training course approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission. Such training includes successful attainment of a satisfactory level of proficiency in the use of firearms.
Appointees will be required to qualify/requalify in the use of firearms in accordance with State of New Jersey regulatory requirements.
Appointees to positions in SWAT, SERT or related units must additionally qualify quarterly in the use of all weapons used by the unit.
<b>NOTE: MEDICAL EXAMINATION</b>
Appointees may be required to pass a thorough medical and psychological examination administered by the appointing authority. Any medical psychological or physical condition or defect which would prevent efficient performance of the duties of the position, cause the appointee to be a hazard to self or others, or become aggravated as a result of performance of these duties, will be cause for rejection. Appointees may be required to undergo a psychiatric examination. Failure to demonstrate sufficient capacity to perform duties of this position may be cause for rejection.
