Definition

Under the general direction of a supervisory official in a local agency, has charge of work involved in monitoring, editing, and verifying information for Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM) compliance; performs complex tasks and develops and implements an interconnection database; prepares reports and PJM submissions; functions as a lead worker and guides lower-level staff; does other related duties as required.

Examples of work

Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory standards. Participates in electric load analysis, demand forecasting, and future capacity planning as required. Oversees the addition, deletion, and updating of computer-entered data by processing coded PJM reports and related forms. Works to incorporate PJM and Independent Market Monitor (IMM) study findings to ensure compliance with state and federal standards. Reviews, edits, and verifies the input and output of PJM Interconnection data, fuel supply data, and power purchase data, identifying discrepancies and initiating corrective procedures with data-originating sources when necessary. Maintains data control records and reviews internal reports to identify and analyze problems and recommend corrective actions when necessary. Prepares reports, maintains records, and assists in developing the agency's interconnection budget. Assigns work tasks and leads lower-level staff by providing instructions and offering advice and guidance when challenging issues arise. Prepares reports based on findings, recommendations, and conclusions. Establishes and maintains essential records and files. Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/ or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Experience

Two (2) years of professional experience in electric power markets, electric power generation, electric transmission operations, or any of the following related fields: electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering, renewable energy engineering, finance, business, or economics.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of basic electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution. Knowledge of how electricity flows through the grid, including the basic principles of power generation and consumption. Knowledge of energy supply and demand principles in real time to ensure optimal grid operations. Knowledge of the industry regulations and standards set by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). Ability to interpret and apply basic laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to review, interpret, and evaluate data and information. Ability to organize, prioritize, and plan work effectively. Ability to analyze and interpret data from the energy grid, enabling real-time decision-making to enhance energy distribution and grid reliability. Ability to coordinate with other energy operators, entities, and agencies to ensure seamless energy distribution and compliance with regulatory standards. Ability to stay up to date with emerging tools, technologies, and regulations within the field to maintain compliance with industry standards. Ability to lead lower-level staff and assign work within the unit. Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations Ability to maintain essential records and files. Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. LICENSES: Appointees will be required to have or obtain, within 9 months of the date of hire, a valid PJM Certification in one of the following areas (as specified by the employer): PJM Transmission Owner/Operator, PJM Generation Dispatcher, PJM Reliability Coordinator, PJM Market Operations, or PJM Balancing Interchange. Failure to obtain the PJM Certification within 9 months shall be grounds for termination.
