STATE POLICE RECRUIT
Enlistment is the word Title 53 uses, and it is the right one. A recruit is carried on this title from the day a class reports to the academy at Sea Girt until graduation and the oath, at which point the trooper ranks begin.
The examination is conducted by the Division of State Police itself, and the statute sets the terms directly: United States citizenship, an age band, good health and character, evidence of fitness satisfactory to the Superintendent, and veterans preference. None of that runs through the Civil Service Commission, which is why the code appears on its list with nothing behind it. Classes open when the Division announces one, which it does irregularly.
What the official title list records
