COUNTY PROSECUTOR

The county prosecutor is the chief law enforcement officer of the county, directing criminal investigations and prosecutions and supervising municipal police in matters of criminal justice. Twenty-one of them cover New Jersey.

Nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate for a five-year term. The office answers to the Attorney General on law enforcement policy, and it is appointed rather than examined.
