Definition
Under direction, makes repairs to elevators, sees that motors, relays, rails, and equipment are kept clean and properly oiled; does related work as required.
Examples of work
Makes repairs to elevators, sees that motors, rails and equipment are kept clean and properly oiled; inspects, adjusts and repairs elevator motors, door locks and signal systems, control switches, braking mechanisms and other parts; repairs electrical or mechanical locks on elevator cage doors; repairs electric control and signal systems by rewiring and adjusting tightening mechanisms; installs push button control systems and performs other duties necessary to modernize elevators; regulates elevator speeds and braking mechanisms by adjusting motors and other mechanical parts; keeps needed records.
Requirements
1. Ability to read and write English
2. Three years of full time work experience in the repair and maintenance of elevators.
3. Wide knowledge of the problems involved in the repairing of elevators, of the standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions, and of keeping necessary records.
4. Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions, to take needed safety precautions in performing the work; to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute and properly use needed equipment, materials, and supplies; to give suitable assignments; to establish and maintain needed records and files.
5. Good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.
