Definition
Performs skilled work in the installation of glass in windows and skylights of buildings; does other related duties.
Examples of work
- Cuts glass to size for various installations.
- Scrapes putty from frames.
- Sets glass in metal or wooden sash with glazier's points or metal clips.
- Applies putty.
- Removes caps from skylights and sets in new glass after preparing bed of putty.
- Putties and replaces caps.
- Cuts and sets window or skylight glass.
- Cements glass panes into sash with putty and putty knife.
- Fastens by clips into puttyless steel skylight sash.
- Cuts, fits and fastens glass into doors.
- Cuts desired size part, using straightedge and glasscutter.
- Drives glazier's points into frame to hold it in place and presses and smooths colored putty into joint, or nails strips of molding in place.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Three (3) years of experience in glaziery work involving a variety of tasks, installing glass in wood and metal frames as well as doors and skylights.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the problems involved in glazing work.
- Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to keep necessary records.
- Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work.
- Ability to obtain, store, safeguard distribute and properly use needed equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to establish and maintain records and files.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
