Senior Physical Therapy Aide is a local service title. It is filled by the counties, municipalities, authorities and other employers that have adopted civil service under Title 11A, not by State departments. Those employers set pay by ordinance or contract rather than from a State salary schedule, which is why most local titles carry no salary range here.

Definition
Under supervision, performs sub-professional tasks in a physical therapy program and/or takes the lead over one or more physical therapy aides; does other related work as required.
Examples of work
- Under supervision of a physical therapist, observes and/or assists patients.
- Obtains and keeps equipment accessible for the physical therapist.
- Takes the lead over one or more physical therapy aides.
- Maintains equipment and working area in clean and orderly condition.
- Assists patients to and from various locations.
- Assists the physical therapist with such procedures as hot packs, whirlpool, paraffin bath, infrared lamps and bakers, Hubbard tank, and other physical therapies.
- Keeps records pertaining to patients, equipment and supplies.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience assisting in the care of individuals in a medical setting.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

- Knowledge of methods used to work with patients requiring physical therapy.
- Ability to apply established routines and rules.
- Ability to take the lead over subordinates.
- Ability to work with a variety of patients.
- Ability to deal gently and professionally with patients.
- Ability to work under both close and general supervision.
- Ability to follow standard procedures and detailed instructions.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
