    Open to permanent employees in the competitive division who hold a qualifying lower title in the same unit. A $35 application fee applies to Non-Public-Safety announcements issued on or after 2026-02-01. Like the open competitive exam, this places you on a list; it is not itself a job offer.

Definition

Under direction, arranges for the display, transportation, and dissemination of promotional materials necessary for the proper exhibition of a resort area's recreational facilities for the purpose of promoting tourism; does related work as required.

Examples of work

  • Makes contact and follows through with officials of United States and foreign cities conducting travel shows and similar events for the purpose of arranging an exhibition of a resort area's recreational facilities.
  • Prepackages materials to be exhibited.
  • Transports materials to proper site and unloads vehicle of display materials.
  • Makes proper arrangements with Custom Authorities as necessary.
  • Assembles and disassembles display material.
  • Shows promotional films.
  • Makes necessary arrangements for a variety of special events during the year.
  • Assists in the preparation of printed materials to be distributed.
  • May act as liaison between departmental authorities and officials during the course of various recreational events, tournaments, competitions and the like.
  • Represents the jursidiction in each phase of its promotional activities.
  • May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Experience

Two (2) years of Public Relations experience involving promoting the sale of a product, service, or in creating good will, or in establishing a favorable public image, or two (2) years of sales experience involving the demonstration of materials, products or services.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of the recreation and tourist facilities of the jurisdiction.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, rules and regulations of the recreational sporting activities offered in the area.
  • Knowledge of the transportation and facilities that are available to tourists.
  • Knowledge of the sites available for the location of exhibits.
  • Knowledge of print advertising on a small scale including some layout experience.
  • Ability to transport and set up exhibits, answer questions and promote the jurisdiction's recreational areas.
  • Ability to act as liaison between departmental authorities and sports officials in the course of tournaments and sporting events held during the tourist season.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with various groups.
  • Ability to maintain essential records and files.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
