Definition
Under direction, analyzes and provides information for evaluation and revision of activities, regulations, procedures, and practices pertaining to mass transportation; does related work as required.
Examples of work
Reviews programs and activities and evaluates administration, objectives, efficiency, effectiveness, and suitability to current conditions, costs, and accomplishments pertaining to mass transportation. Assists in the collection, review, and interpretation of data relating to mass public transportation. Determines whether activities and programs are essential to public convenience and necessity and that they are carried out economically and efficiently. Assists in policy planning. Assists in determining subsidy requirements to achieve mass transportation programs. Appraises the adequacy and efficiency of operating systems, giving suitable advice. Analyzes and resolves problems. Compiles and interprets data. Assists in the development or improvement of mass transportation systems. Meets with the public. Drafts correspondence. Prepares suitable reports containing findings, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations. Maintains essential records and files. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of the fundamentals of mass public transportation. Ability to ensure work is completed accurately. Ability to meet and deal with associates and other persons concerned with the work. Ability to make suitable recommendations. Ability to work independently. Ability to prepare suitable reports. Ability to give suitable assignments and instruction to assigned employees. Ability to establish and maintain essential records and files. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience. Six (6) years of professional experience involving the review, analysis, and evaluation of public transportation systems, planning, organization, and administrative practices and the recommendation of improved methods of operation. OR Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited collge or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience. "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
