Definition
Under direction, conducts inspections of water service installations to locate malfunctioning units; does other related work.
Examples of work
- Inspects fire hydrants, water service lines, and water meters to identify needed repairs.
- Inspects water service repairs to determine whether work was completed according to specifications.
- Tests water flow for proper pressure.
- Conducts special inspections of water meters and water service facilities in response to citizens' complaints.
- Provides recommendations for corrective action.
- Prepares reports.
- Maintains records and files.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in conducting inspections of water service equipment or performing plumbing repairs.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the methods used to conduct inspections of water service equipment.
- Knowledge of the types of water service equipment.
- Ability to determine proper water pressure.
- Ability to conduct inspections and identify malfunctions in water service equipment.
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to maintain records and files.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
