Supervising Paramedic is a local service title. It is filled by the counties, municipalities, authorities and other employers that have adopted civil service under Title 11A, not by State departments. Those employers set pay by ordinance or contract rather than from a State salary schedule, which is why most local titles carry no salary range here.

Examples of work
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of paramedics and emergency medical technicians ( a minimum of three employees );
- Issues and controls work assignments and schedules;
- Enforces rules, regulations and procedures;
- Recommends action to be taken regarding personnel matters such as performance evaluation, discipline, etc;
- Trains employees;
- Suggests corrective and remedial action where necessary;
- Responds to emergency calls;
- Determines and assesses the nature and extent of injury and reports vital signs to a physician via telemetry so priorities of treatments may be established;
- Renders advanced lift-support treatment such as opening and maintaining airways by endotracheal intubation, stopping bleeding and treating shock;
- Immobilizing and giving treatment to fractures;
- Performs gastric suction by insertion of naso-gastric tubes;
- Prepares and administers intravenous saline or glucose solutions under a physician's direction;
- Administers under a physician's direction, prescribed amounts of parenteral injections of lidocaine, atropine, sodium bicarbonate or other such authorized drugs as required; using telemetered electrocardiogram may do defibrillation treatment on a pulseless, non-breathing and unconscious victim;
- May extricate victims from entrapment;
- Prepares victims for transport;
- May deliver babies;
- May care for patient during trip to hospital;
- May act as dispatcher determining priorities in calls for ambulance and dispatching the ambulance;
- Is responsible for all supplies and equipment on a given shift and follows appropriate control procedures;
- Inspects equipments and vehicles to insure proper operating condition and reports irregularities or the need for maintenance to supervisor;
- Evaluates and makes recommendations concerning the purchase of new, equipment;
- recommends new policies and procedures to supervisor;
- Assigns overtime as needed, with prior approval of supervisor, in a manner consistent with departmental rules and regulations and in accordance With contractual agreements;
- Maintains records as required.
Requirements
Satisfactory completion of a 480 hour mobile intensive care paramedic program accredited by the New Jersey Department of Health.
Three (3) years of full time experience as a paramedic.
Possession of a valid certificate as a mobile intensive care paramedic issued by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners;
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles.
Thorough knowledge of the theories, objectives, principles and techniques of advanced emergency medical care and advanced life-support programs; considerable knowledge of the priorities to be observed in the treatment of, patients; considerable knowledge of supervisory techniques.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position ability to learn and apply technical training;
Ability to relate to patients;
Ability to remain calm-in a crisis, situation;
Ability to administer treatment or medication and to maintain. charts;
Ability to set up and position equipment accurately and to manipulate equipment controls;
Ability to follow established procedures and policies;
Ability to determine work to be accomplished, issue assignments to and instruct,' train and evaluate subordinate personnel.
Good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would-impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.
