Definition
Under direction, operates sludge dewatering presses and other related equipment used to extract water from processed sewage sludge; does other related duties.
Examples of work
- Operates sludge dewatering presses to extract water from processed sewage sludge.
- Conducts simple tests on the chemicals mixed and the sewage sludge at various stages of the process and maintains records
- Operates conveyors used to move the dewatered sludge through the various stages of this process.
- Turns equipment and machines on and off and trouble shoots their operations in order to ascertain the reason or cause for malfunction.
- Cleans equipment and machinery and provides routine maintenance, repairs, and adjustments.
- Maintains records and files of the activities and operations of the unit and individual equipment.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in the maintenance, operation, or repair of mechanical production equipment such as hydraulic presses, conveyor belts, or other production equipment used in the mixing, refining, filtration, precipitation, or separation of various materials.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the operations of mechanical processing machinery or equipment.
- Ability to operate a variety of processing machinery and equipment according to instructions.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and demonstrations.
- Ability to work with others.
- Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, and use needed equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
