Senior Water Inspector is a local service title. It is filled by the counties, municipalities, authorities and other employers that have adopted civil service under Title 11A, not by State departments. Those employers set pay by ordinance or contract rather than from a State salary schedule, which is why most local titles carry no salary range here.

Examples of work
- Travels throughout the municipality and inspects fire hydrants, water service lines, and water meters to locate units needing repairs.
- Inspects water service repairs to determine if work is done in compliance with local ordinances.
- Tests water flow for proper pressure.
- Makes special inspections of water meters and/or other water service facilities complaints received from citizens and others.
- Makes suitable recommendations as to the proper action to be taken when called upon.
- Answers non-routine and routine inquiries of a limited complexity.
- When so directed, gives suitable assignments, advice, and guidance to assigned inspectors.
- Makes daily reports showing the status of work in relation to plans and specifications.
- Prepares and maintains necessary reports, records, and files.
Experience
Two years of experience in making water inspections and/or in plumbing work.
<b>KNOWLEDGE</b>
Wide knowledge of:
The function of a municipal water system.
The processes involved in making repairs to water service installations as determinants in making proper inspections; and of the types of water service installations.
The establishment and maintenance of needed records and the preparation of reports.
<b>ABILITY</b>
Read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Communication may include such forms as American Sign Language or braille.
Give suitable assignments and instructions to other workers and to make the more difficult and responsible inspections.
Enforce relevant laws and rules.
Understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions.
Read and interpret plans and specifications.
Determine whether materials furnished comply with the specifications and take the steps necessary to bring about compliance.
Take and maintain a firm and correct stand when controversies arise.
Work harmoniously with associates, contractors, and others engaged in or concerned with water service, and to keep records and file reports.
