Definition

Under direction, has charge of and supervises the operation of the Child Care Center; does other related work as required.

Examples of work

  • (The following examples of work are to be performed utilizing English and Spanish as required.)
  • Organizes and supervises the work required in the care of children.
  • Supervises and handles business operations, including financial and personnel records, and paper work, and the purchase, receipt, storage and use of needed equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Prepares menus and sees that the food is properly prepared and served.
  • Sees that the Child Care Center is kept in a neat, orderly and sanitary condition and that repairs are made when needed.
  • Interviews families of children for admission to the Child Care Center.
  • Supervises children at play.
  • Teaches games.
  • May teach music to children.
  • Prepares suitable reports.
  • Supervises the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronics and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree

NOTE: Applicants who do not meet the above educational requirement may substitute additional work experience as indicated on a year for year basis.

Experience

One (1) year of experience in the supervision and care of children in organized activities.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of the problems involved and the proper procedures used in operating a Child Care Center.
  • Knowledge of the proper care of children.
  • Knowledge of the preparation of nutritious menus.
  • Knowledge of the principles of first aid.
  • Knowledge of the methods of supervising adequate and sound recreational pursuits for children.
  • Knowledge of preparing suitable reports.
  • Ability to organize and develop a suitable day program for children
  • Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions to subordinates.
  • Ability to prepare suitable reports.
  • Ability to supervise the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this positon. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
