Definition
Under direction, assists in supervising and working with a group of electricians engaged in a variety of electrical tasks; does other related duties as required.
Examples of work
- Inspects, analyzes, and assists in the determination of electrical work to be done.
- May develop work plans.
- Gives assignments and instructions to subordinates and assists in supervising their work.
- May supervise and perform the work involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of high and low tension power and light feeders, generating and control equipment, and electrical fixtures, equipment, and appliances.
- Estimates labor, materials, and equipment needed for new and repair work.
- Fabricates conduit systems.
- Inspects and tests, or assists in supervising the inspection and testing of electrical systems and equipment for defects, fire hazards, or other unsafe conditions.
- Operates electrician's tools and equipment.
- Prepares reports and keeps essential records.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Four (4) years of experience in electrical work involving a variety of installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and servicing tasks.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods used in inspecting, analyzing, and determining electrical work to be done.
- Knowledge of keeping needed records and of giving assignments and instructions.
- Knowledge of procedures for inspecting elevator systems, electrical appliances, manual and electronic locking systems, and radio and TV broadcasting equipment.
- Ability to follow written orders, directions, or plans.
- Ability to repair traffic signal systems, telephone scks, telephone systems, power systems, electrical systems and appliances, elevators, locking systems, and alarm systems.
- Ability to use calipers, vises, dial gauges, ohmmeters, volt meters, vacuum testers continuity testers, and meter boxes.
- Ability to analyze electrical problems.
- Ability to organize assigned work and deverk methods.
- Ability to give assignments and instructions.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
