Definition
Under direction, responsible for planning, supervision, and administration of the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair programs for all municipally owned buildings and structures; does other related duties.
Examples of work
- Operates and manages city properties.
- Plans and supervises a variety of maintenance programs for city owned buildings and structures.
- Provides assignments to maintenance personnel.
- Reviews completed assignments for conformance with effective and economical trades' practices.
- Plans and recommends improvements, alterations, and repairs to municipally owned public buildings.
- Prepares plans, drawings and cost estimates for projected work.
- Arranges custodial and janitorial services for public buildings.
- Responsible for the preparation of budget estimates and supporting exhibits.
- Supervises the requisitioning, receiving, storing and issuance of materials and supplies.
- Supervises the administrative and clerical functions of the division.
- Prepares and checks specifications for bids.
- Prepares reports and correspondence.
- Supervises the establishment of records and files.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Three (3) years of supervisory experience in work involving the construction and maintenance of buildings.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the procedures and methods used to inspect, analyze and determine the repair and maintenance work of buildings and the needed materials.
- Knowledge of the procedures involved in establishing, maintaining and developing effective work procedures.
- Knowledge of obtaining, storing, safeguarding, distributing and properly using needed equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to analyze maintenance and construction problems.
- Ability to provide assignments and instructions to staff.
- Ability to handle complaints and provide remedial action.
- Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
- Ability to supervise the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
