Definition
Under direction of a supervisory officer in a state department, institution, hospital, or clinic, operates X-ray equipment; does related work as required.
Examples of work
- Operates X-ray apparatus used in making radiographic examinations and in giving treatments.
- Utilizes traditional and/or digital x-ray equipment and supplies.
- Prepares the solution and develops X-ray plates and films contingent on the type of equipment in use.
- Prepares the schedule for the treatment of patients.
- Keeps necessary equipment clean and orderly.
- Maintains accurate records of patients sent to be X-rayed or for treatment.
- Prepares factual reports.
- Maintains the records and files of X-ray prints and related materials.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
License
Applicants must possess a current, valid license as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (LRT)(R) issued by the New Jersey epartment of Environmental Protection.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the operation of X-ray apparatus used in making radiographic examinations and in giving treatments.
- Knowledge of the procedures and materials used in preparing the solution and development of X-ray plates and films.
- Knowledge of the precautions to be taken to avoid the harmful effects of the rays both to the patient and to the operator.
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions, and to learn quickly from oral and written explanations and from demonstrations.
- Ability to operate the X-ray apparatus used in making radiographic examinations and in giving treatments.
- Ability to prepare solutions and to develop X-ray plates and films.
- Ability to assist physicians in making fluoroscopic examinations.
- Ability to prepare treatment schedules.
- Ability to keep necessary equipment clean and orderly.
- Ability to prepare reports and keep the attendance records and files.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
