Examples of work
- Supervises the Office of Education's Child Study Teams and clerical positions within that component, completes periodic staff evaluations, determines staff assignments, and coordinates all Team activities.
- Coordinates all component activities with the Assistant Director and Director of Educational Services.
- Directs the implementation of in-service training programs. Directs the evaluation and classification of students.
- Directs the design and implementation of I.E.P. models, directs monitoring and assures the appropriateness of I.E.P.'s, and directs the annual review and updating of I.E.P.'s.
- Provides recommendations for general program needs to the Assistant Director for Program Development.
- Assists in the formulation and implementation of procedures and policies pertaining to P.L. 94-142 and "T&E".
- Provides recommendations to the Director on fiscal and programmatic concerns.
- Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs and has responsibility for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting and/or disciplining of employees.
- Prepares and directs the preparation of reports of institutional educational activities containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Assures that areas of compliance pertaining to I.E.P.'s, 94-142, due process, parent involvement are met.
- Consults with institution administrators and teachers on all matters pertaining to education.
- Contributes to the Annual Plan for Education of the Handicapped.
- <b>REQUIREMENTS
- Education</b>
- Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree, supplemented by a Master's degree in special education or school administration.
Experience
Five years of experience involving teaching, curriculum development, and school administration in the field of special education within the framework of residential programs, three years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
License
Possession of a Supervisor's Certificate or 30 Credits beyond the Master's, and a Special Education Certificate.
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Wide knowledge of planning and implementing special education programs particularly in State residential programs.
- Wide knowledge of supervision and management techniques.
- Wide knowledge of the development and implementation of special education curriculum.
- Wide knowledge of the development and implementation of assessment and evaluation models.
- General knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to education of the handicapped.
- General knowledge of the development of in-service programs and the procurement of grant monies for highly specialized projects.
- General knowledge of the development and implementation of individual Education Plans.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
