- Directs the staff and operations of the office engaged in the establishment, implementation, coordination and monitoring of all in-house and consultant community involvement activities
- Develops techniques and guidelines for establishing a comprehensive program that will enable local officials, community groups and individuals to participate in all phases of planning and development of new highway and mass transportation facilities.
- Develops and establishes procedures which will ensure continuing liaison between the public and department officials.

- Coordinates all in-house public participation activities including the preparation of informational materials and visual aids for public meetings, the monitoring of correspondence and speaking engagements and the establishment of staffed onsite community information centers.
- Analyzes department efforts to develop effective means of soliciting and incorporating community input in project planning and development.
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring continuous community participation by establishing comprehensive community involvement programs which include public meetings, issuance of press releases and periodic newsletters, formation of local policy committees to serve as liaisons with the department and establishment of community information centers at convenient project locations.
- Develops and runs effective community involvement and sensitivity training programs to adequately prepare department technical staffs for their public participation functions.
- Prepares correspondence, reports and other written materials in support of the office functions.
- Represents the community within the department and keeps the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner informed on an ongoing basis of public response to department projects.
- Answers sensitive correspondence directly or for the Commissioner's signature.
- Plans, organizes and assigns the work of the organizational unit and evaluates employee performance and conduct, enabling the effective recommendation of the hiring, firing, promoting and disciplining of subordinates.

- EDUCATION</b>
- Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree.
Experience
Five (5) years of experience in work associated with the development of community activities and interests. three (3) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
License
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the operations and policies of the department with respect to the establishment, implementation, coordination and monitoring of all in-house and consultant community involvement activities.
