Examples of work

  • Provides and supervises the provision of legal representation for the Uninsured Employers' Fund before the courts of the Division of Workers' Compensation.
  • Confers with attorneys appearing on behalf of injured workers (petitioners), employers (respondents), and employers' workers' compensation insurance carriers to determine proper courses of action with respect to Uninsured Employers' Fund involvement and liability.
  • Directs and reviews the work of subordinate counsel in the handling cases involving or potentially involving the Uninsured Employers' Fund.

  • Acts as liaison with the Attorney General's Office for the prosecution of civil and criminal penalties pursuant to the Uninsured Employers' Fund Statute.
  • Supervises the work of attorneys, and professional and clerical staff in the duties related to the support of legal representation of the Uninsured Employers' Fund, and makes recommendations, but does not provide legal advice, to the Director and Assistant Director, Workers' Compensation, Office of Special Compensation Fund, with respect to the hiring, promoting, demoting, and disciplining of staff.
  • Performs or supervises the performance of related non-legal work as assigned by the Director and Chief Judge, Division of Workers' Compensation.
  • May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

  • EDUCATION</b>
  • Graduation from an accredited law school with an LLB or JD degree.

Experience

Two (2) years of experience in providing legal representation for government entities involving, but not limited to, appearance before the Division of Workers' Compensation and other courts of competent jurisdiction in the State of New Jersey.

License

Appointee must be an Attorney at Law of the State of New Jersey.

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the New Jersey Workers' Compensation Law (N.J.S.A. 34:15-1 et seq).
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the Uninsured Employers' Fund statute (N.J.S.A. 34:15-120 et seq).
  • Ability to prepare and present effective and firmly based legal positions before the courts.
  • Ability to engage in independent research and analysis of legal opinions and judicial precedent.
  • Ability to apply the results of research and analysis to active or pending litigation.
  • Ability to prepare extensive correspondence, motions, orders, and affidavits.
  • Ability to develop and recommend appropriate rules and regulations and statements of policy and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with all parties to active and pending litigations.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and manage the workloads of subordinate counsel, and professional and clerical employees.
  • Ability to maintain essential records and files.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
