Hundreds of boards and commissions exist across New Jersey government, and this catch-all code carries the people who sit on them. Professional licensing boards, advisory councils, regulatory bodies and study commissions all draw on it.

Many of these seats are unpaid or carry only a meeting stipend, and a good number are reserved by statute for a named interest — a licensee of the profession being regulated, a public member, a nominee of a legislative leader.
