ASSISTANT COUNTY COUNSEL

County counsel is the county's lawyer, and assistant county counsel are the attorneys working under that office — advising departments, drafting ordinances and resolutions, and representing the county when it is sued.

The position is filled by appointment of the governing body or the counsel, so no examination applies. What the job covers varies a great deal between a large county with a full legal department and a small one that retains outside firms for anything substantial.
