Examples of work

  • Provides legal representation for the Uninsured Employers' Fund before the courts of the Division of Workers' Compensation.
  • Confers with attorneys appearing on behalf of injured workers (petitioners), employers (respondents), and employers' workers' compensation insurance carriers to determine proper courses of action with respect to Uninsured Employers' Fund involvement and liability.
  • Reviews interrogatories from petitioners and respondents to determine the legal position to be taken on behalf of the Uninsured Employers' Fund.
  • Prepares exhaustive correspondence, motions, orders, and, affidavits in connection with processing cases, and supervises the maintenance of essential case records and schedules.
  • Conducts legal research and prepares reports on same.
  • Prepares drafts of internal procedures and directives concerning the operation and management of the Uninsured Employers' Fund.

  • Graduation from an accredited law school with an LLB or JD degree.

Experience

One (1) year of experience in providing legal representation for government entities involving, but not limited to, appearance before the Division of Workers' Compensation and other courts of competent jurisdiction in the State of New Jersey.

License

Appointee must be an Attorney at Law of the State of New Jersey.

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the New Jersey Workers' Compensation Law (N.J.S.A. 34:15-1 et seq.).
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the Uninsured Employers' Fund statute (N.J.S.A. 34:15-120 et seq).
  • Ability to prepare and present effective and firmly based legal positions before the courts.
  • Ability to engage in independent research and analysis of legal opinions and judicial precedent.
  • Ability to apply the results of research and analysis to active or pending litigation.
  • Ability to prepare extensive correspondence, motions, orders, and affidavits.
  • Ability to develop and recommend appropriate rules and regulations and statements of policy and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with all parties to active and pending litigation.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and manage the workloads of professional and clerical employees.
  • Ability to maintain essential records and files.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
