NJ Civil Service Navigator (the site) is operated by Gavin Rozzi. NJ Civil Service Navigator is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official resource of the State of New Jersey or the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. This policy explains what the site collects, what the services it relies on collect, and the choices you have.

What stays in your browser

Bookmarks, recently viewed titles, saved searches, org charts and similar features are saved in your browser’s local storage on your own device. They are not sent to us.

Email sign-up

If you sign up for exam alerts or to unlock a feature, we store your email address, the pages you signed up from, the job titles and topics you asked to follow, when you signed up and last updated, the wording you agreed to, and a keyed hash of your IP address used to spot abuse (it cannot be turned back into the address without our secret key). This record is kept on the site’s own hosting provider (Vercel). We do not sell, rent or share your address, and we do not hand it to a mailing-list company.

After you sign up, your browser stores a signed token in local storage so the features you unlocked stay unlocked. When you export data, we record how many exports that sign-up made that day and which kind, to enforce a daily limit, and the file carries a short reference to the sign-up that made it. Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe we keep your address marked as unsubscribed, with the date, so we never email you again by mistake. Analytics

We use Matomo, hosted on our own server at analytics.gavinrozzi.com, to count page views and understand which pages are useful. It is configured not to set cookies and honors browser “Do Not Track” signals. We record events such as clicks on affiliate links, ad units scrolling into view and sign-ups, without your name or email address. We do not sell or share analytics data.

Advertising

The site shows ads served by Google AdSense, including ads Google places automatically. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers or similar technology to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, turn off personalized ads in Google Ad Settings, or opt out of many vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info/choices. Ads are served the same way to every visitor.

Affiliate links

Some pages link to study guides, test prep and career services. If you buy through one of these links, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. When you click, the merchant or its affiliate network sets its own cookies so it can credit the referral, under its own privacy policy. The link may carry a code naming the page you clicked from. We never receive your name, your payment details or a record of what you bought. The affiliate disclosure lists every program.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse, including rate limiting and bot checks on data endpoints.

Data requests and abuse prevention

When a page loads data from this site, the request is checked against rate limits and a bot check. To do that we keep, for up to two days, counters keyed by a one-way hash of your IP address and the records requested, and we log each data request with that hash, never the address itself. The logs are kept as long as our host keeps them and are used only to keep automated copying off the site.

If you use the résumé matcher, your résumé stays in your browser. To rank the specifications, a short summary of it (the degree level, the years, any license and your most frequent words, never a sentence) is sent to the site, used for that one ranking, and neither logged nor stored.

Accounts and alerts

An account is optional. If you create one, we keep your email address, the titles, examinations, decisions and searches you save, the alerts you set, whether you asked for the weekly digest, and the date of the last alert we sent. We keep nothing about what you read. Sign-in works by a link we email you; it works once and expires in 15 minutes, and the session is a cookie that lasts 30 days. Email is sent through Amazon Simple Email Service on our behalf. Every alert and digest carries a one-click unsubscribe, and deleting your account on the account page removes all of it, including the subscriber record for the same address.

Problem reports

If you use “Report a problem with this page”, we store the page address, the kind of problem you chose, anything you wrote, and your email address if you gave one, alongside the same one-way hash used for rate limits. Reports are read by a person, used only to correct the site, and deleted once they have been dealt with. Your email is used only to reply to that report.

AI features

Optional features such as résumé matching need your own API key. What you enter is sent from your browser straight to the AI provider you choose and never passes through a server we operate.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the New Jersey Data Privacy Act, you may have the right to know what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of targeted advertising. The only personal data we hold ourselves is an email sign-up. Write to feedback@gavinrozzi.com and we will answer within 45 days. Children

The site is written for adults interested in New Jersey public employment and is not directed to children under 13.
