How NJ Civil Service Navigator makes money: Amazon Associates links to civil service exam prep books, where those links appear, and the rules that decide which pages get them.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Some pages on this site link to exam prep books on Amazon. If you buy one through a link here, Amazon pays this site a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you had gone to Amazon directly.
Why the site has these links at all
NJ Civil Service Navigator is free, has no paywall, and has no accounts. It still costs money to run. Affiliate commissions and a small amount of display advertising are what pay for it. Nobody pays to appear on this site, and no publisher, bookseller, or test prep company has any say in what gets written here.
Where the links appear, and where they never do
Book links only show up where a book could actually help someone: on competitive-division job titles, which New Jersey fills by open competitive examination, and on the exam and hiring guides. You will not see a book link on a non-competitive, unclassified, or Senior Executive Service title. Those jobs are not filled by examination, so a study book would be useless there and recommending one would be dishonest. The rule is enforced in the code that builds the site, not left to memory.
What we will not do
We do not link to test prep courses, seminars, tutoring, or coaching services. We do not recommend a book because it pays more, and commission rates are not visible to the part of the site that decides what to show you. We do not claim a book is official: no book sold on Amazon is published, endorsed, or approved by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission, and no book gives you an advantage in any examination.
Law enforcement exams need a specific warning
New Jersey tests entry-level law enforcement candidates with the Law Enforcement Examination, which is built on the LEAB, a cognitive aptitude battery. It is not the older memorization-heavy municipal police test that most mainstream police exam books were written for. Two parts of the battery, the work styles questionnaire and the life experience survey, cannot be studied from a book, and we say so rather than sell you something that implies otherwise.
