Types of Civil Service Examinations

How to Apply for an Exam

NJ Civil Service exam announcements are published on the NJ Civil Service Commission website. Each announcement lists the open application window, testing date, and minimum qualifications. Applications are submitted online through the NJ Jobs portal.

After You Pass

Passing candidates are ranked by score and placed on an eligibility list. Veterans receive preference credits added to their score. When a vacancy opens, agencies must hire from among the top three available candidates on the list (the "Rule of Three").
