Archeology
Archaeology inside an environmental agency is largely review work. Before a project disturbs ground, someone has to say whether anything of archaeological value lies under it, whether the survey submitted was adequate, and what the applicant must do if something is found once digging starts.
Graduate training and documented field experience in the discipline qualify the holder; New Jersey issues no licence for archaeologists. The position sits with the State historic preservation programme, which is where the review authority comes from.
