TROOPER 2

Members of the State Police are enlisted, not hired in the ordinary sense. Recruits are appointed by the Superintendent, complete the academy at Sea Girt, and are sworn as troopers; the numeral marks a grade within the trooper rank rather than a different job.

The Division sits outside the classified service and runs its own selection under Title 53. The Commission carries the rank names in its title list because State Police members are on the State payroll, but it holds no examination and publishes no specification for any of them.
