DEPUTY ADJUTANT GENERAL
The Adjutant General commands the New Jersey National Guard and heads the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, an unusual pairing of a military command with a civilian department that also runs the State's veterans homes and memorial cemetery. The deputy assists across both halves.
Appointment is made by the Governor, and the office carries military rank. Neither is a matter for a civil service examination.
