INVESTIGATOR VICTIMS OF CRIME COMPENSATION AGENCY
When someone is hurt in a violent crime in New Jersey, the State can compensate them for medical costs, lost earnings and funeral expenses out of a fund built largely from penalties paid by offenders. Investigators verify those claims: that the offence happened, that the applicant cooperated with the investigation into it, and what other coverage has already paid.
The agency named in this title has since been reconstituted as the Victims of Crime Compensation Office and now sits with the Attorney General rather than the Treasury. The code outlived the arrangement, and the position it names is filled by appointment.
