Definition
Appointed by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board and under the direction of the Commissioner, State Athletic Control Board, supervises all officials assigned thereto, including but not limited to judges, physicians, referees, time keepers and announcers, as provided by statute and State Athletic Control Board rules and regulations; does related work as required.
Examples of work
- Assists the Commissioner in administering the implementation of State Athletic Control Board rules and regulations promulgated by the Board pursuant to state statutes and monitors the process insuring compliance with said rules, regulations and laws in boxing, wrestling and other combative sports shows and exhibitions.
- Assists with the development of policies and procedures for the granting of permits and licenses for those involved in the boxing and wrestling and combative sports industry.
- Investigates and resolves, to the fullest extent possible, complaints at State Athletic Control Board events. Implements major decisions made by the Commissioner such as the suspension, revocation or refusal to issue a license.
- Supervises the investigation of regulatory violations and administers to the extent possible, the uniform enforcement and interpretation of the rules and regulations for boxing, wrestling and combative sports industry.
- Personally oversees the conduct of boxing, wrestling and combative sports events in New Jersey and all pre-fight activities associated with boxing in New Jersey.
- Provides administrative assistance to the Commissioner in organizing, assigning, coordinating and overseeing the activities to the Board.
- Supervises the assignment and performance of all officials to events under the jurisdiction of the State Athletic Control Board.
- Confers with the Commissioner on all applications for the sanctioning of presentations which come under the direction of the State Athletic Control Board.
- Directs the office staff in the preparation of reports and correspondence as directed by the Commissioner.
- Prepares financial and technical reports for submission to the Board on a monthly or special need basis, relevant to insuring compliance with Board rules and regulations.
- May act as official spokesperson on behalf of the Board in dealing with local, national and international boxing interests and in dealing with the news media.
- Reviews required reports of state assigned officials for accuracy and completeness and to determine whether they conform to regulations and reports improprieties at events to the Commissioner.
- Performs periodic inspections of training facilities utilized by boxers in the State of New Jersey.
- Confers with the Commissioner regarding the effectiveness of the operations, and procedures at events.
- Informs and advised the Commissioner in the distribution of news items related to events regulated by the State Athletic Control Board.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
Experience
Six (6) years' experience as a representative of a public or private organization requiring dealing with the general public; governmental agencies or other business enterprises, three years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience as indicated above on a year for year basis.
License
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
