DIRECTOR OFFICE OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW
The Office of Administrative Law runs the hearings where people contest what a State agency has decided, and publishes the New Jersey Administrative Code. Its administrative law judges are independent of the agencies whose decisions they review.
The director is appointed by the Governor with Senate advice and consent for a five-year term — a term deliberately longer than an annual budget cycle, to protect that independence.
