Examples of work
- Investigates possible violations of rules and regulations of the Lottery Commission and of laws of the State of New Jersey pertaining to Lottery operations.
- Organizes assigned cases and develops effective work methods. Prepares reports to the Grand Jury as required by the Prosecutor.
- Obtains, secures and preserves evidence for presentation to the Grand Jury as required by the Prosecutor.
- Testifies in court, in the event of criminal prosecutions pertaining to Lottery instituted cases.
- Coordinates investigations pertaining to Lottery Operations with the State Attorney General, Federal Bureau of Investigation, County and Municipal authorities.
- Investigates complaints against Lottery agents and compiles detailed reports for the use of the Director at hearings.
- Investigates disputes between Agents and Claimants and arranges amicable settlements where possible.
- Confers with Courier Service and their security personnel on matters related to Lottery investigations.
- Conducts background investigations of individuals applying for licenses as Lottery agents.
- Inspects courier facilities and operations to determine whether vendors comply with contractual requirements.
- Conducts confidential investigations relating to the Lottery Commission and Lottery employees.
- Prepares reports of assets of Lottery debtors for possible seizure by the State Attorney General.
- Conducts security checks and evaluations of suppliers of Lottery tickets. Conducts security inspections of Lottery office facilities.
- Conducts continuous review of Lottery security procedures and makes necessary changes to meet changing conditions.
- Conducts confidential and/or undercover investigations as directed by Deputy Director pertaining to the integrity of the on-line and Instant ticket lottery games.
- Reviews confidential computer log tapes pertaining to maintaining the integrity of the Lottery and Lottery agents on disputed winners claims.
- Conducts investigations pertaining to integrity of sensitive computer files and printouts.
- Prepares clear, technically accurate and comprehensive reports of investigations and submits findings and recommendation on varied correspondence.

- <b>REQUIREMENTS
- Education </b>
- Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree.
Experience
One year of experience as a member of a civil or military law enforcement or investigative agency performing field investigations.
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute the indicated experience on a year for year basis.
License
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Wide knowledge of the accepted methods of conducting field investigations with emphasis on interviewing techniques.
- Basic knowledge of New Jersey State Lottery rules and regulations and State Laws pertaining to Lottery operations.
- Basic knowledge of computer generated listings.
- Considerable knowledge of court procedures involving testimony, introduction of evidence, and demeanor as a witness.
- Considerable knowledge of applicable laws governing the conduct of investigations.
- Ability to organize assigned field work, analyze investigative problems, and develop effective work methods.
- Ability to analyze problems and apply State laws and regulations to Lottery operations.
- Ability to plan, organize, conduct and supervise investigations of a general or specialized nature.
- Ability to work cooperatively with associates, superiors, and State and local law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
- Ability to prepare detailed correspondence.
- Ability to read and understand computer print outs and use such print outs to aid investigations.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
