Definition

Under immediate supervision in a Data Center or in a subordinate computer center in a state department, agency, institution, or state college, processes inputs and outputs, prepares and sets up job control language, and other machine control parameters as required to complete machine runs; alerts supervisor to possible problems and carries out directed corrective actions; does other related duties as required.

Examples of work

  • Reviews machine output for general quality, accuracy, and precision as required.
  • Under supervision, performs the quality control review of processed computer output.
  • Under supervision, assists in the staging of input and materials necessary to carry out a machine run, including job control language and other parameters, magnetic and punched stock input and work media, output stock and forms and printer control tapes, and process documentation.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Experience

One (1) year of experience in the areas of computer operations, scheduling, and/or input/output control.

Important Notice Candidates will be tested on the hardware, software operating system, languages, and other pertinent aspects of each installation and must show a proficiency in the areas tested.

The eligible list from each examination will be used only for the Data Center specified.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of computers, peripheral and EAM equipment, and of the concepts of information processing.
  • Knowledge of machine and production input/output techniques.
  • Knowledge of information processing, production, and control functions, and workflow control techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer and machine operating techniques required in the Data Center after a period of training.
  • Ability to learn and work within input/output control work procedures, practices, and documentation used in the Data Center.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to learn to use the required forms processing equipment.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
