Definition

Under the supervision takes the lead in miscellaneous semi-skilled industrial or crafts work; does other related work as required.

Examples of work

  • Takes the lead in the repair of upholstery, mattresses and ticking; cuts, sews, and mends dresses, linens, and clothing; repairs shoes and leather goods; operates printing presses; binds books and pads, collects, weighs, counts and records laundry received and distributed.
  • Develops effective work methods.
  • Gives assignments and instructions to patients, employees, students or others.
  • Supervises the handling of raw materials and finished products.
  • Assists with inspection, warehousing, and distribution.
  • Sees that equipment, tools, and machines are used properly.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Sees that work areas are clean, orderly and safe.
  • Keeps simple records.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.

Experience

One year of experience in semi-skilled industrial or crafts work.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of the problems involved in semi-skilled industrial production and/or crafts work.
  • Knowledge of the methods involved in simple repair and maintenance. Ability to take the lead simple, semi-skilled industrial and/or crafts work.
  • Ability to give assignments and instructions to patients, employees, students and others.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain work areas are kept in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
  • Ability to make simple equipment repairs.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
