• Administers appropriate screening instruments to students upon admission.
• Accepts, and responds to, student referrals from staff, administrators and parents.
• Administers appropriate diagnostic instruments to clients and/or students on a needs assessment basis.
• May function as Child Study Team member and participates in all appropriate Child Study Team activities.
• May develop and implement appropriate Individualized Education Plans for all clients and/or students classified as eligible for speech correction services.
• Participates in speech-related staff development needs assessment activities.
• Conducts appropriate staff-development and in-service programs in the areas of speech disorders, diagnosis and treatment.
• Participates in appropriate curriculum development activities, as required.
• Provides technical assistance to staff in speech related areas.
• May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
• <b>REQUIREMENTS . EDUCATION</b> Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in speech therapy, speech pathology, speech correction, or hearing disorder.

Experience

One year of experience in speech related position.

A permanent Certificate as a Speech Correctionist issued by the New Jersey Department of Education .

License

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

• Wide knowledge of current diagnostic techniques and instruments.
• Wide knowledge of therapeutic techniques and practices.
• Ability to acquire wide knowledge of appropriate rules, regulations, codes, policies and procedures.
• Wide knowledge of current trends and practices in the fields of Phonetics and Speech pathology.
• Wide knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the ear and speech mechanisms.
• Considerable knowledge of appropriate developments in the fields of child growth and development, adolescent psychology, the psychology of learning, and mental hygiene.
• Ability to organize and direct.
• Ability to coordinate the efforts of co-workers.
• Ability to function as an integral member of a interdisciplinary team.
• Ability to plan and implement appropriate in-service activities.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and related educational documents.
• Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
