Definition
Under the direction of a Supervisor of Educational Programs, or an Assistant Supervisor, plans, executes, and evaluates the lessons and educational experiences of students, class, or classes receiving training in vocationally-related subjects. Performs the duties exercising independent judgement using comprehensive knowledge of department rules, regulations, and policies.
Examples of work
- Prepares and maintains up-to-date lesson plans, cumulative participant records, and evaluative data.
- Plans appropriate curriculum which aims to develop participant's knowledge of the subject area.
- Prepares lessons which utilize a wide range of relevant textbooks, curriculum materials, auto-visual, and library resources.
- Participates in the development of an educational philosophy, a curriculum and courses of study.
- Provides individualized instruction and remedial techniques when the needs of the participants dictate.
- Maintains an orderly classroom.
- Confers with a Supervisor, co-instructors, and other supportive personnel, through individual conferences and general meetings, in an attempt to provide for the maximum development of each participant.
- Instructs and guides participants to attain the basic objectives of the educational programs.
- Observes participants and regularly measures their accomplishments of goals and objectives.
- Utilizes teaching techniques based on individual differences of participants.
- Participates in staff meetings with a Supervisor and co-workers on a regular basis.
- Provides leadership and training to new instructors, substitutes, and part-time instructors.
- Meets with a supervisor, whenever possible, to discuss participants progress and evaluation.
- Attends pertinent professional courses, conventions, seminars, and workshops, as recommended by a supervisor, to maintain professional competence.
- Prepares correspondence and reports.
- Maintains essential records, reports, and files.
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience in the appropriate field of expertise.
License
Possession of a valid New Jersey Standard, Limited, Provisional, or Emergency Teacher's Certificate authorizing instruction in the subjects or areas consistent with teaching assignment.
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
<b>KNOWLEDGE AND ABILTIES:</b>
Knowledge of training methods and procedures relevant to the area of specialization.
Knowledge of department rules, regulations, and policies.
Ability to use textbooks and curriculum materials relevant to the area of specialization.
Ability to organize and to implement assignments.
Ability to understand and interpret test data.
Ability to construct tests which adequately measure participant's progress.
Ability to learn to operate audio-visual equipment necessary for lesson enrichment.
Ability to learn to write clear, concise lesson plans which can be interpreted by a substitute instructor in the absence of the regular classroom.
Ability to prepare reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Ability to maintain essential records, reports, and files.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language of Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
