PRESIDING JUDGE OF THE TAX COURT
The Tax Court hears appeals from local property assessments and from State tax determinations. It is small, its judges sit across the whole State rather than in a single vicinage, and the Legislature created it in 1979 to take that specialised docket off the ordinary trial courts.
Its judges are nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate; one of them is designated to preside. Neither step is a competitive process, and the Commission publishes no specification for the office.
