JUDGE OF THE SUPERIOR COURT (Code 78320)
Superior Court is New Jersey's trial court of general jurisdiction, sitting in fifteen vicinages across the Law, Chancery and Appellate divisions. Most serious civil and criminal matters in the State are heard by one of its judges.
Judges are nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. After seven years they may be reappointed with tenure until seventy — the arrangement meant to make a judge independent of whoever appointed them.
