Definition
Under direction, performs the work involved in the scheduling and maintenance of trial calendars; does related work as required.
Examples of work
- Schedules and maintains trial calendars.
- Prepares correspondence with regard to trial calendars.
- Prepares suitable reports indicating the status and disposition of cases.
- Sets pleading, trial, and sentencing dates.
- Prepares the necessary documents required to produce for the court those prisoners incarcerated in various custodial institutions.
- May assign counsel for indigent cases and process applications for counsel fees.
- Maintains permanent criminal records, reviews judgments, and minutes for accuracy.
- Reviews jail lists to insure that all necessary steps have been taken to assure prompt disposition of incarcerated defendants awaiting trial.
- Gives suitable assignments and instructions to assigned employees.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording information systems used by the agency, office or related unit.
Experience
Three (3) years of clerical experience in the preparation, recording or filing of legal documents.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

- Ability to comprehend established rules and regulations.
- Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
- Ability to work harmoniously with associates and the public.
- Ability to maintain suitable records.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
