Definition

Under direction, plans, organizes, supervises and has charge of an Audio-Visual Department; does other related work as required.

Examples of work

  • Is responsible for planning and developing a comprehensive audio-visual program.
  • Oversees the purchasing of equipment and materials for the department.
  • Prepares procedural recommendations concerning audio-visual material use and departmental functions.
  • Prepares budgetary recommendations for an Audio-Visual Department.
  • Gives advice concerning the uses of Audio-Visual equipment and materials.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, programs, and conventions pertaining to audio-visual operations.
  • Supervises assigned personnel.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Supervises the maintenance of essential records and files.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording information systems used by the agency, office or related unit.

Experience

Three (3) years of experience in the procedures involved in operating standard sound and silent motion pictures and other projections; one (1) of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of operating procedures of standard sound and silent motion picture and other projections.
  • Knowledge of methods of care, cutting, splicing and making of sound and silent films.
  • Knowledge of the operation of various types of projections.
  • Knowledge of the methods and problems involved in supervising an audio-visual program.
  • Ability to comprehend and established routines.
  • Ability to organize assigned work.
  • Ability to develop effective work methods.
  • Ability to supervise audio-visual program activities and staff.
  • Ability to supervise the maintenance of essential records and files.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
